Regis Philbin has been on the television host circuit since the late 1950’s and has found himself in the homes of millions everyday on one of his many shows. Regis Phil bin was born in 1931 in New York and attended the University of Notre Dame, later to serve in the Navy. Philbin got his start in the entertainment/radio field in San Diego with his first show on KGTV San Diego. Philbin then reached audiences on a national basis when he became Joey Bishop’s sidekick on the Joey Bishop Show in 1967. For the majority of the 70’s Philbin hosted and co hosted a multitude of shows including AM Los Angeles, Regis Philbin’s Saturday Night in St. Louis, and a national morning variety series for NBC. In June of 1985, Philbin was paired with Kathie Lee Griffith to host the Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. Live with Regis and Kathie Lee lasted until 2000, with the departing of Kathie Lee. For a short while the show was called Live with Regis temporarily until a co-host was found. In 2001, the show finally found co-host Kelly Ripa, and the show continues on today as Live with Regis and Kelly. Another significant part of Regis Philbin’s professional career includes his stints as game show hosts. Philbin got his first job as a game show host in 1975 hosting The Neighbors on ABC. The show was short lived; however it transpired into him being a field reporter for ABC’s Almost Anything Goes, which is an adaptation of a British game show. His two stints as game show host on ABC were not very successful however he would prove to turn his game show hosting career around when he started hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in 1999. Who Wants to be a Millionaire has been a big success since contraception and continues to do well on ABC with current host Meredith Vieira. Philbin then went on to host the first season of America’s got talent in 2005, a Simon Cowell production on NBC. Regis Philbin now hosts for a revised game show called Million Dollar Password. Million Dollar Password is a remake of the game show Password, and debuted in 2008. Philbin uses his celebrity status to get other celebrities to guest star on the show and help contestants to win a million dollar prize. Over the years Philbin has hosted many different types of shows including the Miss America Pageant, Walt Disney World Holiday Day Parade, Dick Clarks New Years Rocking Eve, The Apprentice 2 Finale, and hosted the red carpet of the 80th annual Academy Awards. Philbin also makes regular appearances on the David Letterman Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Conan Obrien, and the View. Regis Philbin is overall a wonderful entertainer and host that has been in the industry for over 50 years and continues to surprise us with all of the wonderful things that he does. His personality and friendly persona have people relating to him on a personal basis
