ESPN sportscaster and talk show host Mike Greenberg was named the host of ABC’s new game show Duel when it premiered in December 2007. The trivia quiz show Duel immediately was a hit with fans and critics and the show had a 2nd run of shows beginning in April 2008. Greenberg began his career at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Upon graduating in 1989 he took a position with WMAQ as a sports anchor. In 1992 he left to join Chicago’s first all sports talk radio station, WSCR. He was an immediate hit as a reporter covering local teams such as the Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls. During four years at WSCR Greenberg also became an anchor, reporter, and talk show host for CLTV cable in Chicago. Greenberg also kept up his duties as a reporter for Chicago sports talk radio. In 1996, Greenberg left Chicago for ESPN which was closer to his hometown of New York City. He initially began on ESPNews when that premiered in the fall of 1996. As his visibility within ESPN grew he eventually got promoted to the channel’s afternoon episode of SportsCenter, the network’s flagship show. At the end of 1999 Greenberg began hosting a morning drive time sports talk show on the new ESPN Radio with co-host, ex Philadelphia Eagle, Mike Golic. Golic and Greenberg were immediately popular and ratings began to increase for their show Mike and Mike In the Morning. From 2000 until the present Greenberg has continued to regularly host the afternoon edition of SportsCenter while doing the radio show each weekday morning. ESPN is owned by ABC so it’s no surprise that when the network had a new quiz show that they would pick their host from the very popular ESPN. Greenberg has proven adept at both a network quiz show and sports talk radio.
