Being so popular with reality audiences led to more opportunities for O’Hurley. Since reality shows, such as Dancing With the Stars, share a large audience with game shows it was a natural fit for O’Hurley to take over for Richard Kind as the host of Family Feud. He had previous game show hosting experience having worked on the remake of the 1950s and 60s game show To Tell the Truth from 2000-2002. To Tell the Truth had been on the air off and on for 25 seasons, but when O’Hurley took over the show was languishing in syndication while more popular game shows such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire for receiving large national audiences. The show was cancelled due to horrible ratings and has never been brought back, but O’Hurley’s performance on the show was well received by critics and fans. Taking over Family Feud has been a good fit for O’Hurley as the show has remained perennially popular and has led to him getting cast in the Las Vegas version of the play Spamalot.
