Alex Trebek is the current host of the game show Jeopardy. He took over when the show was re-introduced in 1984 and has remained the host ever since. The original host of Jeopardy was Art Fleming who hosted from 1964-1975. Trebek is originally from Canada and is best known for hosting Jeopardy but he has hosted many game shows throughout his career. He got his start 45 years ago hosting the show Music Hop from 1963-1964. He hosted a number of other game show of varying success such as The Wizard of Odds, Double Dare, High Rollers, Battlestars, and Pitfall to name 5. In 1984 he got the Jeopardy job, but being that the show is syndicated he has hosted other game shows during Jeopardy’s run. Most famously, he hosted Classic Concentration from 1987-1991. From February 1991 until May 1991 he was the only person in United States television history to host three daily game shows simultaneously. At that time he hosted Jeopardy, Classic Concentration, and To Tell the Truth. Since then, as Jeopardy gained in popularity, he has kept other projects to a minimum and has primarily focused on Jeopardy. He has been praised for his work on Jeopardy and has been the winner of four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Host of a Game Show. He has also been honored with spots on the Hollywood and Canadian Walks of Fame. Being on TV almost every day with his Jeopardy hosting duties he has frequently been the subject of parody, most notably being portrayed by Will Ferrell on Saturday Night Live. Trebek is most often parodied for his serious nature, his detailed pronunciation of foreign words, and for the mustache he famously maintained until 2001. Trebek suffered a mild heart attack during the winter of 2007 but returned for his scheduled Jeopardy tapings in January of 2008. Despite being 67 years old, he claims to have no plans to retire from Jeopardy.
