Becoming a contestant on The Price is Right is different than the audition process for many other game shows. Every day that The Price is Right is taping, prospective contestants are welcome to come down and become members of the studio audience. During popular times of the year it is recommended that people request free tickets in advance so they aren’t shut out. Contestants for The Price is Right are chosen directly from that day’s studio audience. There is no test and no knowledge required of the various 70+ pricing games that the show offers. Groups of ten prospective contestants are interviewed while they are waiting on line. It is at this time that producers decide on a group of people that they might be interested in having appear on The Price is Right. As with all game shows, producers are looking for enthusiastic contestants that will make for a better show and will have viewers cheering for them. It has been noted that this can be taken too far and that producers are aware of people who try to appear incredibly outgoing and gregarious yet come off as insincere. But if you arrive at the show early (which is a key because it shows producers how eager you are to be on The Price is Right) and are outgoing and show your true personality you increase your chances of making it onto the show. The Price is Right studio audience numbers over 200 and only 9 people get to appear on stage so it’s obviously never easy but arriving early and handling your interview well you will be far ahead of the pack. As with all game shows, there are eligibility requirements. Any prospective contestant on The Price is Right must be 18 years old. Also, contestants can’t have appeared on another game show within the last 6 months and can’t have been on The Price is Right in 10 years. All in all, however, becoming a contestant on The Price is Right seems a less daunting task than appearing on Jeopardy for example.
