Becoming a contestant on Fox’s The Moment of Truth is much different than becoming a contestant on most other game shows. Contestants begin by filling out several forms on the Fox website. These questions range from typical questions about background to inquiries about past relationships, family troubles, and employment history. Hopeful contestants are then instructed to give references in all of these areas for Fox to contact regarding drawing up interesting questions about their background. Anyone who found that process uncomfortable would probably not be interested in appearing on The Moment of Truth and having to answer these questions in front of the entire country. From there, potential contestants are required to make a five to seven minute video that discusses why they’d be a good contestant on The Moment of Truth. On most game show applications the producers are looking for energetic people with a passion for the game and interesting stories to tell. That is the case with The Moment of Truth but they are also looking for people with a salacious personal life and the willingness to discuss it on national TV. Within the video hopefuls are also supposed to discuss why they would be able to win the $500,000 grand prize and why America would want to watch them as a contestant. They also want people to expound upon some of the information that went on the application. Discussing past relationships, family problems, and employment issues is encouraged and allows The Moment of Truth producers to best judge who would make an interesting candidate. The questions that will be administered along with the polygraph are very specific to a contestants past history and therefore requires a great deal of research and many interviews so they are looking for specific reasons why someone would be a good candidate. Along with the video and the application, candidates are asked to include a photograph and those that are selected are contacted and scheduled to appear for a polygraph and taping.
