The process for getting on Family Feud is a relatively simple one compared to most game shows. Prospective contestants are urged to call (323) 762-8467 and leave their name and phone number and they are called back by a Family Feud representative. Once called back, producers of Family Feud invite people into an audition in Los Angeles where usually 30-50 families play mock games against each other. Because Family Feud isn’t knowledge-based, game aptitude isn’t valued as much as a winning personality and enthusiasm from everyone within the family. Of course, some knack for playing the game is beneficial because regardless of how interesting someone’s story is they do have to get some right answers. One of the things that separate Family Feud from other game shows is that children under 18 are encouraged to play with their families. Having a child on the team is beneficial because it is rare to see on a game show and the show feels it makes for a good episode which increases a family’s chance to get picked. The producers of Family Feud typically prefer families with a wide variety of ages and genders. They, like all game shows, are looking for families with interesting stories to tell and those that can relate to the viewers at home. Family Feud contestants are regularly from the Los Angeles area because the show doesn’t pay for travel to the auditions. Families from other cities have appeared on the show, but it’s at the contestants own cost and traveling a long distance doesn’t guarantee a spot on the show. However if the family is interesting enough and would make for good contestants being from another city would increase the human interest story. One advantage for traveling families is that Family Feud handles auditions and tapes on weekends.
